Mercedes-Benz that launched the performance oriented CLA 45 AMG in July 2014, is now gearing up for the launch of regular petrol and diesel versions of the CLA sedan in the Indian car market on January 22. Bookings for the sedan have already commenced at a token amount of Rs. 2 lakh, while deliveries are expected to begin from February.

Based on the MFA Platform that also underpins the A-Class hatchback, the Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan is equipped with aggressive front fascia. Just like its hatchback sibling, the sedan has long hood with aggressive creases that merges into the grille. The front gets single slat chrome grille that accommodates three-pointed star in the centre, which is flanked by Bi-Xenon headlamps with integrated daytime running lamps. At the rear, the CLA sedan resembles the larger CLS coupe. Its sloping roofline gives it a coupe-like profile and offers a sporty touch.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the gasoline version gets the 2.0-litre turbocharged, 4-cylinder unit that produces 181bhp and 300Nm of torque, the oil burner is the 2.1-litre unit that is capable of producing 135bhp and 300Nm of peak torque. Both engines are coupled to a seven-speed automatic gearbox which sends the power to front wheels of the car.

When launched, the Mercedes CLA sedan will compete against the Audi A3 sedan. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 28 to Rs. 32 lakh.
