The National Capital witnessed Kangana Ranaut, a popular Indian actress, taking the issue- 'Safety of Women on Indian roads', quite literally and participating in a general awareness event at the Indian Gate. The actress graced a street event on January 9, 2013 to mark the 'National Road Safety Week'. The event was organised to promote road safety for women, besides punishing the violators of common road-side rules in the country.

Kangana expressed herself as any other average Indian citizen and urged the common Delhi residents to refrain themselves from black film infractions and other similar violations. She urged people to remove dark tinted glasses and curtains from their cars. Kangana was seen dressed in simple attire to connect with general public. She strongly believes that something needs to be done with immediate effect, in order to change the situation of women folk in the country

Expressing her firm stance on the initiative, Kangana was quoted as saying, “We'd normally think, how can removing black films from car windows ever ensure a woman's safety? But we need to change this mentality. We all know what happened to the girl who boarded the bus, which had tinted glasses and curtains.”

She further added, “If everyone takes responsibility for following the rules laid down by the traffic police seriously, we will ultimately succeed in eliminating the causes that result in crime. Doing away with tinted glasses will help not only in checking crime against women, but also discourage crimes like robbery and kidnapping.”
