      Isuzu stops assembling cars at HM's Chennai facility, initiates process to move production to Andhra Pradesh

      The D-Max pick-up truck and the recently launched MU-7 SUV from Isuzu until now were being assembled at Hindustan Motors plant in Tiruvallur, Chennai. As per fresh updates from sources the company has stopped rolling out its vehicles from the Chennai facility in December and is soon moving its production its own facility in Sri City, AP. For this purpose, the company has reportedly invested about Rs 3,000 crore towards development of its new plant.

      Initially the plant would begin with a production capacity of 50,000 annual units that would soon b increased to about 1.2 lakh annual units. Starting from 70% localization, it would soon be increased to 100% localization in future. As the company reportedly has sufficient amount of stocks, it would start production of new vehicles from the new facility post April 2016. Additionally, the company has also formed a new company named 'Isuzu Engineering Business Centre India Private Limited', that will be responsible for R&D and sourcing related activities.
