Hyundai will unveil the Ioniq for the Indian market at the 2018 Auto Expo scheduled to take place next February. This is the first full hybrid model from the South Korean automaker and was unveiled in 2015.

Globally it can be had as a Plugin hybrid, hybrid or as a fully electric vehicle and it seems more than likely that we will get the hybrid model here. The company has said that it plans to locally assemble the Ioniq to take advantage of the benefits offered to such vehicles under the FAME scheme. This means the Ioniq will take on the likes of the Toyota Prius which is currently the only full hybrid vehicle under Rs 50 lakh to be offered here. It is not expected to bring in any major volumes for the automaker but will be more of a showcase as to what the automaker is capable of offering with regard to green motoring.

The company had also hinted that it would bring in mild hybrid versions of the Creta and the Verna. However, with the subsidy for mild hybrids being removed from the fame scheme, it remains to be seen how Hyundai will react to the change in scenario.

In addition to the Ioniq and probable mild hybrid models, Hyundai is also expected to revive the Santro moniker and at the same time introduce a compact SUV under the Creta as a part of its future plans.  Lastly, aiming to cash in on the growing demand for automatic models, the automaker is also expected to produce AMTs (automated manual transmissions) in-house and fit them on various models.
