      Ford launches Innovate Mobility Challenge Series, as an initiative for Open Innovation Approach

      As global car manufactures strive to make cars safer year after year, American carmaker Ford does not want be left far behind in an attempt to make the cars safer and enjoyable. Ford has just announced the Innovate Mobility Challenge Series challenge that is spread across eight global locations namely - Mumbai, Delhi and the Chennai region in India; Lisbon, Portugal; Los Angeles, United States; Johannesburg, South Africa; Shanghai, China; and, a countrywide challenge in Argentina.

      Developers and makers will be put forth eight challenges as part of Innovate Mobility Challenge. The contestants would be required to provide with solutions for locally-relevant issues. The solution can be as simple as de-congesting roads, monsoon solutions and delivery of healthcare solutions. Primarily, the idea behind contest is to identify wide range of problems faced by various cities across the globe.

      Speaking more on the idea behind the event, Paul Mascarenas, Ford’s chief technical officer and vice president, Research and Innovation said, “Reaching out to local stakeholders lets Ford more effectively address the diverse mobility challenges around the world. Launching our Innovate Mobility Challenge Series in eight different regions will bring global and local players together in the pursuit of one goal, which is a smarter and more efficient transportation network for the future.” The event kicked off last month in Lisbon Portugal, Los Angeles, United States, and Mumbai, India. The next places where the event has begun are Delhi and the Chennai region in India, Shanghai, China, Johannesburg, South Africa, and a countrywide challenge in Argentina.

      In three Indian major cities namely – Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, Ford has been actively working with public authorities, organizations and app developers to create applications that will solve mobility issues in these cities. Mumbai has been affected with monsoon problems and an app that provides with details on the same would be helpful. In Delhi, the SUMURR Golden Hour Challenge will invite developers to create software applications that shall help with timely medical help in the event of an accident, also known as 'Golden Hour' by medical fraternity. In Chennai, the SUMURR mHealth Challenge has been designed to focus on leveraging vital information that extends health services for remote rural regions that can be accessible from Chennai. The submission period will be from July 30 to October 30.
