In recent times, several reports claimed that Volkswagen Passat has been discontinued in India. It was being said that due to dwindling sales, the production of Passat has been stopped. In the press release dated 26th December 2013, the auto maker has informed that it does not intend to discontinue the current generation of Passat. As a matter of fact, the auto company will keep on catering to its customers with all sincere efforts. The company also underlined that products, availability of spares and serviceability with regards to this vehicle will not be issues for its customers.

The press release gave a clear indication that the German firm is currently working on the next generation Passat. No other details were divulged about the launch date of the new version. Volkswagen merely hinted that the updated version will be introduced in the Indian passenger car market at the right time.

Interestingly, reasons behind stopping the production of Volkswagen Passat, highlighted in various media reports, were decreasing margins, poor sales and falling value of rupee. Another reason associated with such a shocking decision was given as reluctance of customers. Published reports claimed that luxury brands were trying to lure domestic buyers with attractive schemes, thereby hampering sales of this Volkswagen sedan.

Volkswagen Passat is priced in a range between Rs. 22.06 lakh - Rs. 27.26 lakh. It makes use of BlueMotion Technologies in order to ensure a smooth drive with less emission and fuel consumption levels. Optimised gear ratios, auto start-stop, brake energy recuperation and gear shift indicator are some features that have been incorporated under the tag of BlueMotion function. This luxury sedan has three variants, namely Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
