BMW’s i8was first introduced in 2014 and reports now reveal that the car maker has plans to make the facelift available internationally by the fourth quarter of 2016.
The i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car that uses a plastic passenger compartment which is reinforced by carbon fibre. Details now expose BMW’s intention to upgrade the hybrid engine and it could see a 10 per cent increase in power output. This includes reworking the three cylinder 1.5-litre mill to make a combined power figure that’s close to 420bhp. With already 362bhp on tap, the hike in power will only make the i8 quicker. Especially when it will be using the six-speed ‘box that is also slated for tweaks.
Details on whether the battery packs will see an upgrade has not been furnished yet. However, BMW is known to be testing the Halo inductive wireless charging system along with its partner Qualcomm. So it makes sense to assume some advancements could be used on the facelifted i8.
BMW India should get the facelifted i8 here when launched and it will add to the car maker’s hybrid repertoire.
