      BMW aims to sell 50 superbikes in India in year 2011

      The Germany based leading automaker BMW is aiming to sell 50 motor-cycles in the Indian market by the end of this year. Moreover, the company also planning to introduce bikes below 1000 cc in the Indian market in coming months. The company had marked its debut in the Indian market about three months back in January 2011 with a number of new models in the two-wheeler segment.

      In a statement given to PTI, Navnit Motors' Managing Director, Sharad Kachalia said, "We have already sold 23 bikes so far and our target is to sell 50 bikes by December 2011."

      In the global market, BMW motorcycles are known as BMW Motorrad. In the Indian market, the company sells its new bikes from two outlets, one each in Delhi and Mumbai. The company imports its bikes in the Indian market through two dealers including Deutsche Motoren and Navnit Motors.

      While further elaborating the company’s India portfolio, Mr. Kachalia said, "All our models have a good demand, but our two models -- S1000 RR and R1200 GS -- are witnessing a greater demand. We have six models and all bikes are above 1,000 cc and in the price range Rs 18-25-lakh."
