The Bajaj RE 60 has been one of the most highly anticipated vehicles that is due for launch in the Indian market. The RE 60 from Bajaj is compact, fuel efficient and easy to drive within the city. The USP about this four wheeler is that the vehicle reportedly delivers a fuel efficiency of about 30 - 35 kmpl, thereby making it a good option for people looking to upgrade from a two-wheeler.

Recently a report from BS has stated that Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director has lashed out at some leading automobile companies who have approached the government with a plea to increase the cap on upcoming RE60 currently weighing about 450 kg to about 600 kg. The automobile companies are objecting stating that the current weight defies the purpose of upgrading from a three wheeler which roughly weighs about 350 kgs. Objecting to this, Bajaj has stated that increasing the weight would work against the 'quadricycles' concept which shall not deliver the intended mileage figures and shall also result in excessive carbon dioxide emitting from the vehicle. Speaking more on the issue Bajaj said, “A quadricycle is much more comfortable and safe than a three-wheeler so all I am saying is norms for qudricycles be made on their own merits rather than in the context of cars.”

Adding further Rajiv Bajaj said, “Increasing the cap to 600 kg will defeat the purpose of upgrading from three-wheelers, which weigh 350 kg. And, more importantly, it will destabilize cars and prove an underhand attempt to discredit the quadricycle. An increased weight will also work against quadricycles' pitch as a category for those wanting greener products. A heavier vehicle, understandably, will be less fuel efficient and fail to meet the exacting carbon dioxide norms that we have offered in the RE60."
