In a bid to further strengthen its market position, Audi is planning to launch several new products globally in the next couple of years. However, the most anticipated car will be the company's smallest SUV- the Audi Q1. The SUV is expected to be launched in 2016, and this mass market product is also likely to hit Indian shores since we have all the Q range of cars on sale here. Currently, the company is selling A1, A3 and Q3 as mass market products, and the small Q1 SUV will join the league and will be positioned below the Q3 crossover.

If reports are to be believed, the Audi Q1 will be based on VW's MQB platform that also underpins the A3 sedan. It is also expected to be the cheapest car in Audi's Q range of SUVs. Adding to it, the company is also working on the next generation Q3 SUV which is speculated to be introduced in 2018.

The engine specifications of the crossover are yet to be announced. But the crossover is expected to be launched with a range of petrol and diesel fuel options. The gasoline engines are expected to be the 1.4-litre TFSI unit producing 140bhp and 250Nm of torque, the 1.8L TFSI and 2.0L TFSI that are good for 230bhp and 370Nm of torque respectively. The oil burner is likely to be the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that offers two state of tunes- 150bhp and 184bhp.

Interestingly, the company is also contemplating a performance oriented variant of the crossover- the SQ1. It is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel unit that produces 231bhp of power and 500Nm of torque.
