Mitsubishi, the Japanese car manufacturer, has released a teaser image of an SUV, which we think is the 2016 Outlander. The teaser image announces the arrival of a new model at the 2015 New York Motor Show next month.
Since the teaser image doesn't resemble the spy shots of the new Outlander, we believe it is the US-bound model. The new model will take its styling cues from the Outlander PHEV Concept-S. Inside the cabin, the SUV is likely to get better quality material and advanced features.
Mitsubishi will also unveil the facelifted version of the Outlander PHEV, which will be equipped with an improved hybrid system. The outgoing model is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. This engine comes equipped with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery of 12 kWh capacity. The Outlander hybrid can run up to 55km on electric mode and offers a range of 880km when used as hybrid.
The revised Outlander and Outlander PHEV will be unveiled on 2nd April at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The company might also introduce the updated Outlander Sport, which will be benefited with more sound deadening material, improved CVT and an additional 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine.
Mitsubishi will also launch the new Outlander SUV in the Indian car market this year. The company will only bring the petrol version initially, while the diesel avatar of the SUV will come at a later stage
