Suzuki is on its way to issue a recall for over 16 lakh small and compact cars in Japan. The cars manufactured between 2008 and 2015 have a defect in their air-conditioning system for which the recall has been planned.
The lubrication for the air-con compressor is not adequate. The compressor tends to overheat and as a result stops. Since the compressor is driven by the engine, the stopped compressor leads to added load on the engine while decelerating making it stall. While there have been no related reports of mishaps or injuries, over 240 such incidents have been reported which has led to the recall of these 16 lakh cars.
One of the cars being recalled is the Wagon R. We also have a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R in India but it shares almost nothing with the Japanese car in terms of components. While the Indian car is powered by the 1.0-litre K10 engine after the 1.1-litre four cylinder mill, the Japanese car gets a 660cc turbo-petrol. And since there is no component sharing, the Indian car is not affected by this Japanese recall.
