Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car maker, is ready to begin its yearly motorsport event Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm this month. More than 300 participants will compete in the 10th edition of this motorsport event, which will start on 20th February 2012 at New Delhi. On 18th and 19th February, the participating rally cars will be inspected, while the event will conclude on 25th February 2012 in Ahmedabad.

The event has been divided into three sections, namely Xtreme, Xplore and Endure. Maruti has also included the truck category for the first time in this event, with four AMW trucks competing in the Endure category. Some of the top rallyists of the country will be competing against each other on the Time Speed Distance (TSD) format. The participants will be covering a distance of about 3,500 km in six days in this tournament.

Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki said, "Every year we face the challenge of bringing more excitement and thrills in the rally. Our core team tries to build on this aspect either by adding newer routes or new categories and even modifying routes making them more challenging to drive on for the rallyists."

Before reaching Bikaner, Sardarshahar and Pokaran, the rallyists will test the night rallying leg of the event. In the penultimate stage of the event, participants will be covering difficult territory of the great Thar Desert in Jaisalmer and solid ground of Bhuj. In its final lap, the rally will venture into the wet and muddy terrain of Rann of Kutch.
