About Volvo V40 Cross Country

The Volvo V40 belongs to the series of cars that have been manufactured by this Swedish auto maker since 2012. The V40 series is meant to be functional for a small family. In 2013, the company introduced an updated version of this small family car, named Volvo V40 cross country. This model was almost the same, but it differs when the size comes in question. It has bigger body panels, which are meant to protect the car. Along with this, these cars have bigger wheels and tyres that add to the driving pleasure.

The V40 Cross Country has a variant too by the name of T5, which has additional features like the Hill Descent Control and the All Wheel Drive function. The car was launched in the Indian market in July 2013 and since then it has been praised for its decent features. These especially include the space it provides along with the safety controls that are not present in the V40 hatchback series, the predecessor of the V40 cross country. It has been designed to tread on the toughest terrains, and it does its job quite well given the features it is loaded with.

Further to this, read Volvo V40 Cross Country Road Test details by our expert.

Volvo V40 cross country is built for the Indian roads; that is the same question that everyone is right now pondering on. Well, for the exterior and the first glance that anyone would take, this car will certainly keep them glued because the exterior of the car is well built. It is beefy and big and surely gives you a promise of a 5-seater car. The car has headlamps that certainly add to the aggressive looking appeal of this car. Moreover, the car has a long bonnet that is one of the show stealers. To add to the already great impression of the car on the first glance, it has a sporty look due to the roof rails that blend in with the posterior. The car has a lot of plastic material on all its sides so that there is no danger of dents to the car. Wherever you go for a rough trail and leave the smooth roads, its features don't create trouble. The exterior of the cars are good, and they have all accessories to keep the car safe and good looking at the same time.

The interior offers just what the customer is looking for. When one steps into this big car, one will get the feeling of being in a sports car due to the dashboard and the bonnet. All built in a spectacular fashion, this is one of the perks of this car. The dashboardis built in two tones - brown and beige and it has plastic inserts around it. Along with this, the leather seats are comfortable, and there are consoles for entertainment. The company states that the car is a five-seater, but one could rather eliminate the number and just keep it to 4. It's due to the seat in the middle that has the space for a 5th person that is rather uncomfortable and not suited for long drives that you might be taking with your family. Also, the hard backrest of the car won’t help. The design of the car is low - slung but it can be discomforting for people who are above 6 foot. The headroom is ample, and there are many readings shown on the tachometer including a digital speedometer, trip and fuel consumption along with a gauge that shows the pressure.

Engine and Transmission

So far, only one variant of the car is available in India. The car is powered by a 2.0 Litre turbocharged diesel engine that ensures 150 BPH and 360 Nm of torque. The fuel efficiency is around 16.81 km. The over-the-top specs have not been introduced, and the efficiencyis limited to this number only for the Indian cars, the global ones have a lot more than this.

Performance and Handling

The performance of the car is good. The start-up time is a bit of a downer, the car wakes up like it has been jolted from sleep, and it then runs smoothly. The car holds on to 5,000 rpm mark with a resounding voice on every start up. When you ride the car and go for drives, one could get the occasional bumps at low speed. Otherwise, the car is good and works fine.

The 1984 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 12 kmpl in city and 10 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 12 kmpl on urban roads and 10 kmpl and freeways, respectively.

Safety Features

A car from the Sweden makers has to be safe, as it is their trademark. The best feature about the car is that it has all the safety controls in place, and one could not get hurt in its spacious body. The car has roof rails, and it has a lot of plastics on its outer body to protect it from the unusual bumps or for those unfortunate, near the death experiences.

The car is a refreshing change from Sweden’s Volvo, and it will give a tough competition to its competitors. The car is very safe for the Indian roads and the dynamics for driving are well balanced out.  The car is also very fuel efficient and has a very tough and strong body. Hence, you can use it to move around your neighbourhood.

The car faces competition from cars like BMW X1 and Mercedes B Class Diesel. These cars are 5 seaters, have automatic gear boxes and run on diesel. These have a competitive pricing and look good too.

  1. All the features of a safe car
  2. The build is solid and appealing
  3. It is fit for Indian roads and long family drives

  1. Claims to be a five-seater but is not one

Volvo V40 Cross Country: Sumptuously Elegant

Going by general conventions, it we want something extremely safe and secure it has to be massive and big in nature. If the same has to move on ground, it would definitely not look anything close to amazing. Pretentious belief?

Volvo has always endorsed safety in all its cars. It may not the most popular of the lot especially when it comes to “premium” cars as it has a very elegant approach to competition. While the three Germans have always been busy fighting among themselves, for Volvo, it was not about churning sales to reach peak but instead make cars that could be enjoyed, felt safe to drive and overall relished for long.

Presently, the entry level premium cars are in vogue as the manufacturers want to introduce products to lure the young Turks of the country. This segment boasts of aspirational buyers and also greater volumes. While the X1, B-Class and the Q3 are doing well, it was a wise decision by Volvo to introduce the V40 Cross Country in India.

Featuring classy interiors, tech savvy features and flowing exterior line, the Volvo V40 Cross Country seems to be a well knit gift with a satin ribbon. We indulge more in this Sumptuously Elegant ride.
