The first thing that strikes you in this car, when you get in,- The loads of space. Extremely airy and good leg room for front and rear passengers.. Start the engine and you find - Minimal NVH level inside. Almost silent cabin while idealing.. Get on the roads and you will realize - Damn good steering feel. Steering is extremely light, which is a boon for zigzaging in the city.. Hit the highway - Amazing cruising ability where the presence of the 6th gear comes into play. No vibs at all at higher speeds.. Now Break hard - Excellent response. Though my car doesnt have ABS, but my friend's Sports model has it. Excellent grip on wet roads in monsoon riding. Truly confidence inspiring.. Rear boot- Wow, The best of the hatches. 3 huge trolly bags easily gets into it. Finally, it comes with a loads of features in the top end models and justifies its price tag very well. The cars is actually tailor made for the Touring enthusiasts..
What Can ImproveFirst thing that comes into your mind is - Its Short geared. That means frequent gear shifts required in city usage. Even the 3rd gear cant be used as over drive gear, which is a bit disappointing. The Air con - Even my previous TATA Vista had better cooling abilities than this one. When the car is kept in sun, it takes more than 5 mins to cool the cabin. My privious car use to do it within 2 mins.. Steering in High speeds - This is a minor problem. I have got used to it now. At first, it felt really nervous at speeds above 120kmph, for the steering is too light compared to other cars. Now I am able to cruise at occasional 140-150 kmph easily.. A little less in Diesel mileage - Never got more than 19 kmpl ever(That too when I rode it sanely keeping speeds under 75 kmph just after 1st servicing). I do ride it fast more often.
I am used to a number of cars in my life, having rode Vista and Swift extensively for 3 years. My verdict- Swift is the most practical car to own, for an average guy who drives the car himself and has a family of 4. Stupid rear leg room though. Its the best Driver's car. Vista is the best chauffeur driven Hatch. Most comfortable and spacious car, which can carry 5 well built persons effortlessly. Its damn cheap to maintain well. i20 is an all rounder. It has the goods of Swift and Vista blemded to make it an "almost" perfect car. Though it has its own short comings, considering no car is perfect for every body. There is a car for each and every taste. Its upto you to choose accordingly.
