About Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai is strengthened its premium car portfolio once again with the launch of the updated Elantra sedan in late 2019. The Elantra was first launched in India back in 2004. In 2012, Hyundai introduced the new generation Elantra on the fluidic lines that began with the Verna. A generational change took place in 2016 and this car is the mid-life update for this generation of the sedan.

The Elantra is now a rare breed and only competes in the premium sedan segment with the Skoda Octavia. With its class leading feature list and suave looks, the Elantra has turned out to be a formidable option.

The updated Hyundai Elantra now sports the latest design language of the South Korean automaker that includes the likes of signature cascading grille and large swept back headlamps that blend in with the front fender. The shoulder crease on the side profile is prominent complementing the sharply raked windshield and a coupe-ish roofline. The headlamps now get daytime running lamps while the internals of the tail lamps have been reworked.

The Hyundai Elantra has one of the busiest dashboard design amongst its peers. The centre console houses a touch-screen music system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto as well Hyundai Blue Link connected car technology. The Elantra’s feature list is quite comprehensive with things like cooled front seats, Cruise control, electrically operated ORVMs, auto-dimming IRVM and rear AC vents with fan speed control, reverse camera with dynamic guides, instrument cluster with colour MID cooled glove box, power driver’s seat are all a part of the feature list. On the safety front, all versions now get six airbags along with ABS and EBD. The Automatic transmission cars get an electronic stability program along with hill hold control.

Engine and Performance

The Elantra has two engine options – A 1.5-litre diesel engine and a brand new 2.0-litre petrol engine. The 1.5-litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is also found in the Verna and develops 112bhp/250Nm and can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine develops 150bhp of power and is offered with two gearbox options– a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic that power the front wheels.

2015 Hyundai Elantra Facelift Review To think of it, there aren’t enough reasons to justify Hyundai Elantra’s discouraging sales. Undoubtedly, it is the most beautiful car in its range and does come with impressive features. In fact, it was the Elantra which brought in a class of aspiration among its generation. Over the years, Hyundai’s prowess in making hatchbacks and mid-sized sedans has been well proven but then when it comes to their expensive offerings, the response is less enthusiastic. Hyundai wishes to change this perception and therefore has updated the Elantra with design tweaks on the outside as well as on the inside. We take a detailed look.

The Hyundai Elantra is unarguably the best looking sedan in its class. There were some instances where we found its overall design even better than the Mercedes-Benz CLA –Class, without any exaggeration. The Fluidic Sculpture is best seen on the Elantra as its generous proportions of metal justify the modern design philosophy. In the list of updates, most importantly, the headlights feature projector lamps as standard across all variants. What make these amazing headlights a lot cooler than normal are the LED guide lights, which surround the projector lamp from all sides forming a radiant arch. The front bumper has a bolder design with striking contours. It also gets subtle chrome i.... Read More
