BMW 7 Series Review


The new-generation 7 Series has made its debut in the Indian car market, and the new BMW flagship has a lot more to offer than competition. The new 7 Series comes loaded with a lot of technology and features. The new-generation is built on a highly futuristic platform that has been made from super-light alloys that make it a lot lighter than competition.

The 7 Series’ headlamps are now Laserlight with blue design. These illuminate the road in laser high beam mode for up to 600 metres, which is twice as much as that of a conventional LED headlamp.Then there are the adaptive headlights that cast their beam in the direction of the road curve for best possible visibility. The 7 Series looks a lot more stylish than before and it has the comfort access system that detects the key and unlocks the door when within 1.5 metre radius.

The new 7 Series comes with two distinct designs, one is Design Pure Excellence and the other is the M Sport. The BMW 7 Series is available in Alpine White non-metallic paintwork and metallic paintworks following are the colour options: Mineral White, Glacier Silver, Magellan Grey and Black Sapphire. The exclusive metallic paintworks for Design Pure Excellence range include Cashmere Silver, Arctic Grey Brilliant Effect, Sophisto Grey, Black, Imperial Blue and Jatoba. The BMW 7 Series Individual is also available in Almandin Brown metallic paintwork. The M Sport range comes with Singapore Grey and Black Carbon.


The interiors of the new 7 Series are extremely luxurious and this new flagship model from the Bavarian automaker will make it look stylish. from the inside. The instrument panel has been angled towards the driver so as to put all controls within reach and facilitate intuitive driving. The 7 Series has an option of Vitality Pack that has eight massage functions ensures a particularly relaxed ride. The ambient lighting comes with six colour options and this makes the 7 Series and this wasn’t offered before on the 7 Series.  

The BMW 7 Series with the unique Gesture Control that recognizes six pre-defined hand movements for control of functions like volume control, accepting or rejecting phone calls, acknowledging check control messages, closing an information window and even changing the camera angle. 

Engine & Transmission

The new 7 Series is made available with 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine that churns about 450bhp of power and 650Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine on offer is the 3.0-litre V6 that produces about 265bhp of power and 620Nm of maximum torque. These are the engines that will come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive ensures that you do not run out of traction at any given point. The two-axle Air Suspension adjusts the height of the car without depending on the load factor.It can even increase or reduce the ground clearance by 30mm depending on the road conditions.

Performance and Handling

The handling of the 7 Series is one of the best in its segment. The driver is able to choose between different driving modes to suit the driving conditions (Comfort, Comfort+, Sport, Sport+, Eco Pro, Adaptive). The new 7 Series is agile when it comes to handling characteristics and this is one of the strongest USP of this sedan. Despite its length, it is nimble and has good handling prowess.


The 2993 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 12 kmpl in city and 14 kmpl on highways.

Safety Features

The 7 Series comes loaded with one of the highest number of safety features. It has a range of airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and several passive and active safety features that will be seen on many new cars in the near future. Driving Assistant Plus is an incorporated safety feature that optimizes features such as Lane Keeping Assistant with Active Side Collision, Active Cruise Control with Stop  and Go function ,Steering and Lane Control Assistant and Rear Collision Prevention and Front Cross-Traffic Warning. This system is functional up to speeds of 210km/hr.


If you are in the market to buy one of the German flagships, do consider the new 7 Series. It is fast, spacious, stylish and feature loaded. Not all cars in this segment are as nimble as the 7 Series is.


The new 7 Series is competing with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 L and even the Jaguar XJ L. The Bavarian flagship is the freshest one and offers certain features that are new.
