Ford Mustang Review

Summary

The Ford Mustang was launched in 1964 and turned out to be a runaway success for the American car maker. The Ford Mustang also triggered a slew of launches from other car makers in America, the cars which were later known as the ‘muscle cars’. The Ford Mustang that is currently being sold in India is the sixth generation Ford Mustang that was introduced in 2015.

Further to this, read Ford Mustang Road Test details by our expert.

Mileage

The 4951 cc Petrol - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 9 kmpl in city and 11 kmpl on highways.

Interiors

The Ford Mustang’s interior is in black with metallic inserts. A metallic trim runs across the face of the dash with leather on top and the signature pony on the three-spoke steering wheel. The binnacle of the instrument cluster is separated by a multi-function display screen that reads out the essentials like fuel economy, distance to empty, average speed et al. the waterfall centre console holds the touch-screen infotainment system which comes enabled with GPS navigation as standard. It gets dual-zone climate control, cruise control, power operated front seats and other creature comforts befitting a luxury car.

The safety is taken care off by dual front airbags, front seat side airbags and curtain airbags. It also has a comprehensive stability program including traction control, skid control, ABS and EBD along with hill-hold function. Rear-view camera with guidance for parking assistance is standard.

Exteriors

While the Ford Mustang has experimented with its design over the years, it went back to its original 60s look from its fifth-generation upgrade. The current car goes further close to the original design and looks like a retro-mod of the original Fastback. The two-part grille up front sits below the sculpted hood that has a distinctive bulge at the centre. The sleek single barrel projector headlamp units have three vertically stacked LED strips for daytime-running lamps which give the car a mean look. The long hood, flared wheel arches stuffed with large alloy wheels, a raked windshield and a fastback roofline with a stubby little boot complete the profile of the car. The signature triple-lamps tail unit is now LED and the chiselled rear bumper with the dual exhausts make it look its part as a sportscar.

Engine & Performance

The Ford Mustang comes in with the 5.0-litre dual overhead cam, four valves-per-cylinder V8 petrol engine. The naturally aspirated motor develops 395bhp of power at 6500rpm and 515Nm of torque at 4250 rpm. While globally the Getrag six-speed manual gearbox is offered with the car, we will only have the six-speed automatic option sending power to the rear wheels. Ford might bring in the smaller EcoBoost engine powered Mustang but there is hardly an official word regarding it.

  • Ford Mustang First Drive Review

    Ameya Dandekar | 15th July 2016

I am still pinching myself in disbelief that I have finally driven the iconic Ford Mustang Muscle car. It’s a car I have only read about, seen in videos and pictures. But now it’s finally here and what better way for it to enter here than with a roaring naturally aspirated V8 under that long hood. This original American pony c....

Although this is the first Mustang to be designed for the global market, it still keeps its predecessor’s hefty proportions. It now carries a lot of design cues from the modern Ford line-up like the slim headlamps but its design language is unmistakably Mustang-esque -- the upright grille, muscular wheel arches, strong crease runnin....
