Toyota Land Cruiser Prado won the first Desert Dash 2009 rally featuring premium SUVs. The rally was organized for professionals from large organizations that included CEOs, senior executives, golf club members and business owners. The rally was officially flagged off from Hotel Aman, New Delhi and included 16 teams of which 15 completed the race.
First time rallyist, L. Khosla and Mr. A. Sharma, won the race driving the Toyota Land Cruiser. More experienced Thunderbolt team, led by Anil Wadia and A. Naik in their Nissan X-Trail grabbed the first runner up position while another rookie team led by P.R. Sinha, V. Tuli and G. Varma were the second runners up driving a Porsche Cayenne. They also clocked the fastest time around Sambhar lake in Rajasthan which is a 21 km stretch.
The event was organized by Cougar Motor Sport in North India. “We are extremely satisfied and the success of Desert Dash 09 has been way beyond our imagination. We are grateful to all our participants for the enthusiasm and competitiveness shown and to the whole team at Cougar, who have taken time out from their busy schedules to work tirelessly towards making this event a success. We have already started to plan our next rally and strongly believe that it will be even more successful” said Ashish Gupta, director of Cougar Motorsport.
Other participating luxury models were Mitsubishi Montero, BMW X5, Volkswagen Touareg, Honda CRV, Mercedes M Class, Ford Endeavour Pajero & Outlander, Toyota Prado & Land Cruiser.
