Below mentioned is the interview with Mr.Chandru on his ownership experience.
Question: How long has it been since you own this car, any reason behind choosing this car?
Answer: I bought this car in 2008. Hyundai Santro has always been a well known and highly reliable car. I had driven it earlier so when I had an opportunity to upgrade from my Maruti 800, I choose the Hyundai Santro Xing.
Question: Can you explain your experience with earlier models compared to your present car?
Answer: Maruti Suzuki 800 is the best entry level car to own with no complains at all. We got a fantastic mileage of 17 kmpl. We had the Maruti 800 for a good 4 years and throughout our ownership we have never faced any sort of problem with maintenance and performance of the car. The Maruti 800 was a value for money decision that we took. However, with all the positives about it there are negatives too like less interior space and not too much of a fun to drive car. It is a very purpose built entry level hatchback the country has seen. When we decided to upgrade from this our priorities were set. We wanted a roomy car with a better performing engine than our 800. With maintenance and reliability as a main concern, going for the Hyundai Santro Xing was our obvious choice. It was a very good decision as till date we have no issues of any sort from it.
Question: Please tell us more on the present status of your car.
Answer: Since the time, I bought it I have been maintaining it properly. I have got all the servicing routine done from the official service station only as I don’t trust any other mechanic but them. In the past, I used to keep a track of all the servicing records but recently I have lost the owner’s manual so unfortunately have lost all the records of the same.
Questions: Does owning a Hyundai Santro Xing equal the experience of owning a Maruti 800?
Answer: Obviously, It is a better experience. The Hyundai Santro Xing is a car with better interiors and better exteriors. It won’t be fair to compare these 2 cars as both sit in different segments. The Hyundai Santro Xing was a pleasure on long drives with its comfortable seats and I could comfortably cruise at speeds of 120kmph. I have traveled close to 600 kms in the Santro Xing.

Question: What is the average cost per service incurred?
Answer: Generally my cost per service is around Rs.3000, including change of oil, tuning, washing etc.
Question: Have you ever met with an accident or any unpleasant experience during your ownership?
Answer: Though I am an extremely careful driver, sadly a friend of mine while maneuvering out of a parking lot damaged the door and the fender of the vehicle. We got it repaired at the authorized service station. The damages were claimed under insurance. It did not take much of time throughout the claiming process as the dealers were very helpful in guiding us correctly.
Question: Any mileage issues that you faced with this car?
Answer: I get a mileage of around 13 kmpl in city and 17kmpl on highways. This is decent as the city roads are always clogged with dense traffic. There are a lot of instances when the engine has to be often started and switched off while driving through the long never ending queues.
Question: How practical is a Hyundai Santro as a everyday car?
Answer: As I mentioned earlier, I have been very happy with it over long drives. It is my everyday car in which I commute to and fro from work and also for family outings on weekends. It is a very nice car provided one maintains it well.
Question: Any brake down that you faced and how was the problem solved?
Answer: No Brake down faced till now.
Question: How was your experience at the service station?
Answer: The service quality is good. I have never faced any issue with the quality of servicing done on my vehicle. The service engineers give high importance to good quality work and customer satisfaction. However, the service costs at authorized service centers are high. Since my vehicle is out of warranty and there are good reliable local options available for servicing the car, I might consider taking the car to them for periodic servicing.

Question: How do you rate the overall ownership experience, would you recommend the same to others?
Answer: We have been very positive about the ownership of this vehicle. The performance, comfort and the mileage offered are very satisfying. The small issue in this good experience is the high servicing costs. The Hyundai Santro Xing has a very good resale value, the reason for this is the trust of the people in the brand of Hyundai, the service network that the company has as well as the reliability quotient, which is very high compared to cars offered by other manufacturers. If one wishes, he can definitely go for it but after making sure the car has been maintained properly and ideally.
Question: If given an option to choose a car from the existing options available in the market, which one would you choose and why?
Answer: Since we are very happy and satisfied with the Hyundai Santro Xing, we haven’t given it a serious thought. Still to mention one, I think the Ford Figo diesel would be a good option to choose from. It has been successful in getting all the appreciation due to its performance and the value for money package, Ford offers with the Figo.
Question: What’s your opinion about choosing between petrol and diesel cars?
Answer: The petrol prices are increasing at an alarming rate. The diesel rates are also following suite but less often compared to the petrol prices. I have recently heard that there are chances of the prices of diesel cars going up, which has been severely protested by the auto manufacturers. Though this decision will take time to actually materialize, the resale value of used diesel cars would go up. I just wish to add that good maintenance of your car for a long period will be a great investment.
Conclusion
In the review one can notice that there is a good feedback about owning a Hyundai Santro Xing. It has been clearly proposed that a well maintained vehicle will fetch you a good amount for it. Overall the positive experience of Mr.Chandru over his Hyundai Santro Xing proves that one can definitely go for a used option, but provided the earlier owner has maintained the car really well.
