      Skoda, the Czech automaker, launched the new Yeti facelift in the Indian car market in September 2014. Interestingly, the SUV is now available in both 2WD and 4WD versions, which makes it a good product for both on-road and off-road driving. The 4x4 variant is priced at Rs. 20.53 lakh, which makes it a good competitor for Ssangyong Rexton. Just so you know, the Yeti is a five-seater while the Rexton can accommodate 7 passengers.

      Mahindra introduced the Ssangyong Rexton SUV in the country in 2013, and this SUV is designed and developed to offer excellent off-roading experience. It is available in three variants - RX5, RX6 and RX7.

      Exteriors and Interiors

      Talking about the new Skoda Yeti, it receives new headlamps with integrated xenons and LED daytime running lamps. It also gets a new grille that resembles the Superb sedan. The bumper, however, is all new. At the rear, the crossover has a new pair of LED tail lamps. There is an extra plastic body cladding on the bumpers and sides. The flared wheel arches of the SUV have been fitted to newly developed 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the new Yeti has new three-spoke steering wheel, new seat upholstery and new instrument cluster. It is equipped with features like new tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control along with keyless entry and start/stop button, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather wrapped steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver seat, etc.

      Mahindra, the homegrown automaker, launched the third-generation Ssangyong Rexton SUV in the country in 2013. The SUV is equipped with an all-new front fascia with five-slat horizontal chrome grille, flanked by newly designed projector headlamps with integrated daytime running LED lamps. Its large bumper comes equipped with fog lamps and LED indicators. There is black treatment around the bottom to add premium touch, while the massive flared wheel arches offer sporty touch to it. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets leather seats and good quality plastic with top-notch fit & finish. The overall design of the central console is simple. It is equipped with features such as touchscreen interface for audio, DVD player, satellite navigation, Bluetooth telephony, sunroof, climate control, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, rear parking sensors, steering mounted audio controls, etc.

      Performance

      The Ssangyong Rexton is propelled by a 2.7-litre in-line 5-cylinder DOHC turbocharged diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 162bhp at 4,000rpm and 340Nm of peak torque. The automatic variant of the SUV is more powerful, and offers 184bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 402Nm of peak torque.

      The Skoda Yeti facelift is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine that offers two states of tunes - 110PS and 140PS. The 110PS engine is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox, which sends power to the front wheels. On the other hand, the all-wheel drive model is propelled by a 140PS, 2.0L TDI engine which is mated to a six-speed shifter.

      Conclusion

      The Ssangyong Rexton is an affordable luxury SUV, which undercuts its chief rivals including the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. It is loaded with advanced features, making it a good value for money product. It is bigger and offers more space, and provides excellent off-road ability to its customers. On the other hand, the new Yeti comes with sorted dynamics, spacious and feature loaded interiors and good off-roading ability.
