SsangYong Rexton Competitor Analysis
2012 SsangYong Rexton has arrived just in time for festive season in India; however, it may face stiff competition from several noteworthy models in the automobile market. The SUV segment of Indian automotive market is a highly competitive one, with a large number of car manufacturers already existing and competing for a bigger chunk of market share. However, the main competition for the new SsangYong Rexton will be posed by the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Ford Endeavour.
Ssangyong Rexton has a major advantage over aforementioned models as the car comes with a price tag, which is significantly lower than the other three. This may turn the tide in its favour in a price sensitive market like India. At Rs. 19.67 lac, it is way less expensive than the others, all of which are in the range of Rs. 21-25 lac. At present, the Toyota Fortuner is leading the high-end SUV market with an average monthly sales clocking around 1,300-1,500 units. It would be interesting to watch how the Ssangyong Rexton fares against the competition with fairly low price and more features.
SsangYong Rexton in India does not only outbid the competition on grounds of price but also in terms of power output. The 2.7 L turbo-charged powertrain of Rexton is capable of churning out 183.45 bhp, on the other hand, Toyota Fortuner can produce only 168.66 bhp. Ford Endeavour is at the bottom with 153.86 bhp, while, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the closest competitor with 175.56 bhp. The new Ssangyong Rexton also wins hands down, when it comes to mileage at 11.1 kmpl, which is the best in this range.
SsangYong Rexton is also the only one among these models to come with an electronic sunroof. It is also the sole contender in the competition, which comes with E-Tronic gearbox and E-Tronic shift buttons on steering with shift position indicator.
SsangYong Rexton Pros
SsangYong Rexton in India comes with lots of benefits over other SUVs in its price range. The RX5 and RX7 are priced at Rs. 17.67 and 19.67 lac respectively, and offer a whole gamut of features, which are not present in other models in this price range. Even models like Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which are slight more expensive than the new SsagnYong Rexton do not match it in terms of features. This will certainly favour the recently launched SUV in the Indian automotive market, where customers aspire for more in less price.
SsangYong Rexton Cons
Ssangyong Rexton is a complete package in itself with a rich array of features at an attractive price tag. Truly speaking, there are not many cons that one could associate with the recently launched vehicle. However, one issue that remains is that this product is the début venture of the Joint Venture between M&M and Ssangyong. However, the concern can be brushed aside as Indian customers will not be hesitating while making a decision to purchase 2012 SsangYong Rexton as M&M is one of the leading SUV manufacturers in the country.
SsangYong Rexton Conclusion
SsangYong Rexton is a SUV that has been loved throughout the world and has even earned a large number of awards to its name. Rexton houses a powerful engine capable of delivering both on and off road performance. The car boasts of dashing look and comfortable interiors. Rexton can comfortably accommodate 7 people and provides plenty of space for the passengers to relax. So far as fuel economy is concerned, the SUV is quite frugal and delivers an ARAI certified mileage of 12.4 kmpl, which is quite good for any SUV. Overall, Rexton is a great SUV to buy and will surely do a good business in the long run.
