Latest on Ford EcoSport: 16 July, 2015
In recent trends, it has been evident that Ford has risen again to the heights of success with its new and improved variants of various car models. They have been working on another such model, which is expected to get a better engine. The car is none other than Ford EcoSport. Ford EcoSport has been one of the most successful SUVs by Ford in India.
Ford EcoSport, a SUV has 10 versions available in India. Ford EcoSport has 6 Petrol cars and 4 Diesel cars. Other popular cars in the similar price range of Ford EcoSport are Mahindra Quanto and Renault Duster. Ford EcoSport comes in 7 colours, namely, Chill Metallic, Diamond White, Kinetic Blue, Mars Red, Moondust Silver, Panther Black, Sea Grey.
The EcoSport sub-4 meter SUV, launched in 2013, is one of the most awarded and popular Ford cars in India. With sophisticated urban and premium design, the crossover looks appealing. It features halogen headlights, chromed radiator grilles, fog lights, pronounced wheel arches, alloys and various other styling elements. Interior, too, is as sporty and premium as the exterior. It gets some styling cues from the Fiesta. The beige & black theme, lots of silver inserts and top-quality upholstery add more to its interior appearance. It’s comfortable, and offers plenty of space for front seat passengers. However, the rear seat shoulder space is limited. The compact crossover is available in two petrol (123.4bhp, 1.0-litre EcoBoost and110bhp, 1.5-litre) and one diesel (89.9bhp, 1.0-litre EcoBoost) engines. A 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission are on offer. The handling and ride quality of the car are pretty impressive. The EcoSport is also one of the most fuel efficient Ford cars in India.

The various fuel trims in Ford EcoSport are priced differently. The Petrol trims are priced between Rs. 7,06,681/- to Rs. 10,17,882/-. The Diesel trims of Ford EcoSport start at Rs. 8,25,498/-.
Having a symmetric and neat design, the crossover looks very sporty and outgoing. The front fascia features an octagonal chrome radiator grille with the company’s badge, halogen headlamps and fog lamps with circular chrome lining. At the sides, it gets a pair of large alloys, pronounced wheel arches and side creases at the door bottom. The rear end, with a spare wheel, looks very masculine and rugged. The side-opening tailgate, triangular tail lamp cluster, rear windshield with black additions at the sides and black plastic cladding around entire profile enhance its bold and sporty appeal.
The dual-tone beige & black interior of the crossover is inspired from the Fiesta. Plenty of silver inserts on the dashboard, gearbox panel, center console, instrument cluster, AC vents and steering wheel add more to its premium appearance. The base variants offered with the fabric seat covers, while the top-model gets leather upholstery. It’s well-packed, and offers ample legroom and headroom. However, the rear seat shoulder space is bit restricted. Just like most Ford car models, the crossover is equipped with several comfort-enhancing features such as a new MID with Microsoft SYNC, audio system, air conditioning and many more.
Engine and Transmission
The compact crossover is available in two petrol engines - 1.0-litre EcoBoost and1.5-litre - and a diesel engine - 1.5-litre DV5. The award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine develops a maximum power of 123.4bhp at 6000rpm with a peak torque of 170Nm at 1400-4500rpm. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) belts out a peak power of 110bhp at 6300rpm with a torque of 140Nm at 4400rpm. Both the petrol engines are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while a 6 speed automatic transmission is also available with 1.5-lite variant. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder DV5 diesel engine, on the other hand, delivers a maximum power output of 89.9bhp at 3750rpm with a peak torque of 204Nm between 2000-2750rpm.
Performance and Handling
All the engines are refined, and deliver linear output. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is an exceptional performer. It accelerates 0-100kmph in 10.8 seconds with a top speed of 190kmph, while the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine takes 13.25 seconds. The 1.5-litre DV5 diesel powertrain marks a speed range of 0-100kmpl in 13.20 seconds with an electronic speed limit of 175kmpl. The ride quality is excellent, but it gets slightly bouncy on rough roads. However, the hydraulic suspension with damping duties prevents harshness. Handling is predictable and balanced. The crossover is one of the most fun-to-drive Ford cars in India.
Having a robust braking system, the compact SUV ensures a safe drive on rough Indian terrains. The front and rear disc brakes are offered as standard features, while the Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Traction control system (TCS) and hill hold control are available only on top-end model.
The 1498 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 20 kmpl in city and 22 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 14 kmpl on urban roads and 16 kmpl and freeways, respectively.
The compact SUV comes loaded plenty of safety features such as six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), traction control system (TCS), electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist (HLA), emergency assist, emergency brake hazard warning, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX, immobilizer system, smart keyless entry and many more. However, the aforementioned features vary variant-wise.
The EcoSport is a great value for money car. The sporty styling, well-equipped interior and a range of efficient engines make it a perfect vehicle for Indian terrains.
Ford EcoSport Vs Renault Duster
There is no denying that both the vehicles look very masculine and sporty. The Duster is a well-built crossover that drives well too. But, the EcoSport offers all these features at more competitive price. It’s frugal and slightly more powerful than the Duster.
