About Maserati GranCabrio
Summary
Maserati happens to be a popular Italian sports car manufacturer, which has introduced its vehicles in the Indian market in the year 2011. The first model launched by the company was GranTurismo in 2007, which is a one of a kind sports car. After its initial launch, many facelift models were launched but they only survived for a couple of years. Then in 2010, the company introduced Maserati GranCabrio, which happens to be a convertible version of the GranTurismo. The launch was a great success. The GranCabrio being a Maserati did have a grand entry in the market, but the company had to compete against many leading sports brands. However, specifications, features and safety of this model outdid its name and soon it started to be known as one of the best sports cars in the business. The car is stuffed with features and with its high-end look, it has become one of the most trusted names in the sports sector of India.
Exterior
As far as exteriors of this GranCabrio are concerned, the car features a sporty design with nicely sculptured cosmetics on its entire body. Design wise, GranCabrio follows the GranTurismo closely. At a single glance, one will notice its stunning headlights and the metal finished body. The company offers 20in wheels standard, but you have a choice of two designs which will not cost you extra money. Three canvas roofs are available, black is the standard, but the other canvass room will be paid extra. Maserati GranCabrio MC has grafted a new and very aggressive bumpers rear and front; the new model has rearranged the exhaust, with a new spoiler that has completed the whole look. MC Stradale is quite different from the rest of the GranCabrio range in the sense that it has 20-inch wheels that make it stand out.
Interior
The Maserati GranCabrio is one of the roomiest four-seat convertibles on the market; it is car one would choose for a cross-continent trip. This convertible has a length that pays off. The car has made a genuine legroom for four adults; legroom is just one component of comfort. For the roof mechanism, the seats at the rear have been raised and moved inwards. Airflow is well managed with the roof lowered, with the raised rear windows. The ample space left for restoring some of the structural rigidity lost in the conversion from coupé to convertible, now it has a torsion wall, which has reduced the volume from 260 to 173 liters. The cabin radiates the same lows and highs as the GranTurismo’s. Overall material choice and design are of a standard to the virtue of the price.
Engine and Transmission
Maserati GranCabrio’s is offered in three different variants, name GranCabrio Sport, GranCabrio Fendi and GranCabrio MC. All the variants of Maserati GranCabrio have come equipped with the identical 4.8-litre engine, which has a displacement of 4691 ccs. This engine has been tuned in two different configurations with top variant churning out a maximum power of 442.5bhp with the highest torque of 490 Nm. On the other hand, in other two versions, this engine produces a maximum power output of 442.5bhp bhp with 510 Nm of peak torque.
Performance and Handling
The springs and dampers fitted on the base of Maserati, suggest to the driver that the sports car means business. The car’s demeanor exhubes firmness but when it comes to challenging roads, you need to accept some discomfort and keep sufficient control of the car’s body movements. There’s an addition of a brand new version of Maserati’s Skyhook electronic damping system has transformed the ride. With the sports mode on, the GranCabrio Sport flies along with striking refinement on quite rough roads. The normal mode, which you would be using mostly this sports car is truly an impressive cruiser. Maserati has made the steering feel some and heavy enough. You would enjoy the ride of this one for sure.
Braking System
Maserati GranCabrio’s has been equipped with ventilated disc brakes with all the wheels that do their job efficiently to rein this high-speed sports car.
Mileage
The 4691 cc Petrol - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 10 kmpl in city and 12 kmpl on highways.
Safety Features
GranCabrio’s is undoubtedly, one of the safest on the road as far it is compared on the basis of equipment. The GranCabrio has been provided with Anti-lock Braking System and Front and Side Impact Beams. Apart from these, Maserati has enhanced the safety of the car by providing, dual front and rear airbags, Crash Sensor, Engine Immobilizer, Rear Camera and Braking Time.

I took Maserati Gran Cabrio for a test-drive and was awestruck with this power packed convertible. Cabrio which is a synonym to 'convertible' comes with 4691cc, 8 cylinder engine that can easily generate peak power of 440hp at 7000rpm and maximum torque of 490nm at 4750rpm. The car may not feel spacious from the interior; however, unique exterior is what sets it apart from any other car of same class. The hood of Maserati Gran Cabrio has a functional and artistic design, which in-turn helps in improving car handling. On the other hand, the cabin evidences numerous features that increase passenger comfort and convenience. These are namely air-conditioning system, plush leather seating, power steering, power seats, cup-holders, audio system with CD player and AM/FM radio, central locking and steering adjustment. Maserati Gran Cabrio has all standard safety and security equipment as well. Like in any other luxury car, there are safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), driver passenger air-bags, engine immobilizer, traction control and child safety locks. This premium class car costs considerably high owing to a superior and unique design and advanced technology. The car is monitored and optimised with the help of Maserati Stability Programme (MSP) that prevent skidding by reducing torque generation.
