Summary
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is a world known Japan based multinational automobile maker. It is currently holding its headquarters in Minato, a place near Tokyo in Japan. The company’s foundations were actually laid here in year 1917. The Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Corporation Limited brought-in the Model A, which was actually Japan's first automobile to come in series-production. In Indian market, the Japanese automaker is trading cars in association with Hindustan Motors Limited. The company also announced the coming-in of the Lancer sedan in Kolkata by the Hindustan Motors Limited.
Mitsubishi Motors signed an agreement with Hindustan Motors Limited in year1995. Under this contract, both auto makers agreed that Mitsubishi will take responsibility for supplying required technical assistance to HML in terms of design and development of the petrol engine Lancer ran on. Most of Mitsubishi car models have bid adieu to Indian marker. The left ones include Pajero SUV which is a major money maker for the brand in India. Lancer was manufactured at HML's Chennai based unit and could be purchased via HML‘s dealership network in our country.
Executive Management
All Mitsubishi activities and operations in India are taken care by the Hindustan Motors India. Uttam Bose is currently holding the position of its Managing Director, HMFCL. The man takes complete responsibility for all decisions pertaining to the brand in our country. Other noteworthy person in HMFCL is its’ the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. P. Vijayan.
Indian Operations
Mitsubishi Motors India assembles its vehicles at HML’s production unit located in a place called Tiruvallur near Tamil Nadu’s capital city. The plant is an astounding state-of-the-art production facility that rolls out exclusively premium passenger cars.
The domestic automaker HML began its operations in this facility almost three decades back when it began rolling out dumpers, crawler tractors, front-end loaders, etc. In year 1998, the automaker began manufacturing the Mitsubishi Lancer. As years passed by, HML produced several cars including Cedia, Pajero, Montero, Evo X and Outlander and Evo X. The plant bears a production potential of 12,000 units per annum.
Products & Services
Mitsubishi cars can be easily purchased via HML dealerships that are spread wide across all major cities and towns of our country. The Japanese car maker currently holds 44 dealerships along with 50 customer touchpoints that cover biggest Indian cities including New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.
Environmental Initiatives
Mitsubishi Motors hasn’t introduced any electric or hybrid cars in our passenger car market yet. However, the Japanese maker is developing a series of electric vehicles. The company recently unveiled the XR-PHEV II concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The plug-in hybrid model represents its upcoming Compact SUV. It is being expected that the automaker may bring-in hybrid or electric cars in our market soon.
Founder & First car
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Corporation Limited introduced Japan's first series-production automotive in1917, it was called the Model A. Inspired from the Fiat Tipo 3, it was carved with hands as a seven-passenger sedan. The vehicle was pretty expensive and its production was stopped after rolling out 22 units. Post the II World War, the Japanese car maker re-started manufacturing vehicles. The company resumed production of the Fuso bus, along with it a Silver Pigeon scooter and a 3-wheeled Mizushima cargo were also manufactured. Next car to be introduced by it was the Mitsubishi 500, a saloon meant for mass markets. Later in 1962, the Colt 1000 and Minica Kei car were introduced. Within next three years, the production capacity passed 75,000 units per annum. On April 22, 1970, Mitsubishi Motor Corporation was formulated as a completely owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
USP
Currently, Mitsubishi is selling just one car - the Pajero Sport SUV - in Indian automotive segment. However, the Japanese car maker plans to bring back its Outlander and Montero SUVs soon. Mitsubishi cars in India directly aim to catch attention of off-road enthusiasts; however, these cars have proved their efficiency for urban roads as well. The upcoming high mileage Mitsubishi cars are expected to attract young minds seeking high performance and better fuel efficiency.
Resale Value
Mitsubishi car models enjoy a pretty decent resale value in our used car market. Its two most successful products Pajero Sport and Lancer are highly popular among motor enthusiasts along with a very good resale value.
Competition
Mitsubishi Motors has been struggling hard to revise its sales figures in Indian passenger car market. Its sole product - the Pajero SUV - has been facing stiff fight from other premium SUVs like Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, and Ford Endeavour
