      Summary

      Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. is a completely owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. A French performance-based luxury carmaker, it is headquartered at Molsheim, Alsance, located in France. The Bugatti trademark was acquired by Volkswagen in June 1998 and was incorporated as Bugatti Automobile S.A.S. in 1999. Post this; the car maker displayed a complete new range of concept cars between years 1998 to 2000. The production and distribution of its first model Veyron 16.4 though commenced in year 2005.

      Bugatti was initially a French automobile brand that was founded by an Italian man named Ettore Bugatti. The cars from this production house were known for their incredible performance and unmatched looks. Some of the world renowned models names include Type 55 sports car, the Type 57 “Atlantic”, the Type 35 Grand Prix, and the Type 41 “Royale”.

      When Volkswagen acquired Buggati, it hired ItalDesign’s Giorgetto Giugiaro for designing its new concept cars. The first one to hit floors was the EB 118 two-door coupe in 1998 at the Paris Motor Show. In 1999, the firm brought the four-door EB 218 touring sedan on floors in Geneva while the 18/3 Chiron came-in at Frankfurt. The last Bugatti concept car - the EB 18/4 GT - was showcased in 1999 at the Tokyo Motor Show. All these concept cars featured an 18-pot engine that could smoothly churn out 547bhp.

      Executive Management

      Volkswagen AG appointed Wolfgang Durheimer as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of Bentley Motors Limited. Along with the man was also asked to preside over Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. as President. He is currently responsible for all operations and decisions made in Bentley and Bugatti. In India, all Bugatti operations and activities are taken care by Volkswagen Group.

      Indian Operations

      Out of all Bugatti car models, only Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is available in Indian market. it happens to be the fastest car in the world and debuted here in 2010. This magnificent beast of speed was exclusively introduced in India via Exclusive Motors. Sold in very limited numbers, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is usually directly imported from Bugatti’s manufacturing unit located in Molsheim at Alsance in France.

      Founder & First Car

      Automobile Ettore Bugatti was one of the first high-performance automotive makers from France. Founded in 1909 in Molsheim, Alsance, by an Italian named Ettore Bugatti. The cars rolled out under this brand are mainly known for their exquisite styling and super speed. Bugatti cars have known for winning numerous trophies in car racing competitions. The company’s journey came to an end with Ettore Bugatti’s demise in 1947. The man had no successor as he lost his only son Jean Bugatti in 1938.

      It was fifty years later when Volkswagen purchased right to manufacture cars under Bugatti’s marquee in June, 1998. Finally in December, 2000, VW formally reincorporated Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. The reigns of this brand were given to VW’s former drivetrain Chief Karl-Heinz Neumann who presided the brand as president.

      Environmental Initiatives

      Volkswagen AG is yet to introduce any kind of hybrid or electric car under Bugatti brand. But keeping in view the increasing demand for hybrid and electric cars, the company is expected to bring-in a new range of environmental friendly vehicles on floors.

      Bugatti cars in India are mainly admired for their speed and finesse. Veyron e.g. is known to be the speediest vehicle on this vehicle.
