I am not sure about your family strength and the distance you would travel once a month out of town. I am therefore assuming yours is a family of 4 and the outstation trip would be for about 450-500 kms to and fro plus a monthly city running of about 750 kms. To optimise the overall requirement, you would be travelling about 70% locally and maybe all 4 would not be travelling each day. I would suggest you the Toyota Etios LIVA Diesel mid range vehicle which is a ideal mix of all your requirements. It is silent, good engineering, competitively priced, good features etc. The next best Hatchback would be the i20. If your budget is higher at say About 8-9 lacs, please go in for the Volkswagen VENTO. Its simply beautiful. The next option would be the Toyota Etios. I would not recommend a TATA vehicle with the same confidence. Perhaps the new VISTA Sedan could be tried. It is feature rich. Maruti is already saddled with a strike issue at its plant so I have not stated the Maruti. I hope I have been able to assist you in taking a rational decision.
