About Skoda Kodiaq

Skoda has launched its Kodiaq SUV in India and this is their flagship for the Indian market. Its underpinned by the MQB platform and shares the same with the Tiguan and Passat from sister brand Volkswagen.   The SUV was showcased in concept form as the Vision S at Geneva last year and was unveiled in production form in late 2016. The name Kodiaq is inspired from a species of Alaskan brown bear as well as town bearing the same name.

The Kodiaq receives the family face in the form of the moustache grille and rectangular headlamps. The vertically slatted grille dominates the fascia while the three-part air dam and swept back projector headlamps lend it the required aggression. The Kodiaq is a full-size SUV and it shows in its 4.7 metre long profile. It gets a long hood, a prominent shoulder line, squared wheel arches and a sloping roof. The tail should look sleek with the wrap around tail lamps, a raked windshield and a hemline on the tail-gate.

The cabin of the Kodiaq is a mix of the latest generation Octavia and the Superb models. There are many common bits which is actually a good thing as both cars have clean cut designs and high quality materials. It gets the latest generation infotainment system from the VW group and the buttons on the console may be touch-sensitive. Dual-zone climate control with separate blowers for the rear seats are expected to standard along with auto-dimming interior mirror, electric folding wing mirrors, headlamp wash function et al. The middle row is adjustable to free some more space for the third row passengers.

The Kodiaq is a full-sized seven seater SUV and at 4.7metres length, it is the ideal competitor for Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Mitsubishi Pajero.

The claimed mileage for the Skoda Kodiaq is 16.25kmpl.

Skoda Kodiaq Expert Review

Skoda had started its innings in India with a bang. The Octavia, back then, was second only to Mercedes with its tank-like build and typical European demeanour. Without the presence of any real competition, Skoda’s brand value leap frogged many seasoned players in the Indian car market. With its perceived luxury, a big fat SUV was always on the cards. So here we are driving the all-new Skoda Kodiaq, the first big-fat SUV from the Czech carmaker in over 100 years to find out if it can be the giant slayer like its sedan sibling, the Skoda Superb.

The Skoda Kodiaq demands attention. Not in the overtly aggressive, flashy style that the other SUVs demand, but in a rather assertive manner. Based on the versatile MQB platform, the Kodiaq is the first ever seven-seater SUV and does take a few design cues from its sibling, the Skoda Superb. The large chrome-laced moustache grille pasted across the tall fascia is commanding especially with the full LED headlamps and daytime running LED lamps beaming alongside. The lines adorning the Kodiaq are straight and clean and work rather well in hiding the bulk. It is only when you move to the profile that you realise its size, especially with the flared square wheel arches, large doors and an eq.... Read More
