      Traveling everyday to work using a public transport can get tedious at times. Owning a car and driving it to work may seem lucrative but the overall cost of ownership deters many from opting for it. Car-sharing services seems to be a good option as it saves the investment cost for a new vehicle and also gives you an opportunity to travel as per your convenience.

      Around three companies in the country have modeled their businesses on the lines of Zoomcar India Pvt. Company founded by two Americans to offers car sharing services in the country. The company offers Mahindra Reva e2o hatchback at about Rs. 45 per hour. One of the user of such service, Shrinidhi Hande, Business Analyst from Chennai prefers riding on his motorcycle throughout the week, whereas, for weekends he prefers opting for Zoomcar or Myles that is owned by New Delhi- based company named Carzonrent India Pvt. Ltd. Speaking more on the occasion, Hande said, “Buying a car is a total waste of money. Using services such as Myles or Zoomcar, I get to drive the latest models without having to pay monthly installments, insurance or maintenance.”

      Speaking more on such services, Abdul Majeed, a partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers Llp in Chennai, commented, “In the next two to three years, demand for such services will explode, at least in the metros. A lot of people don’t want to invest in cars with traffic congestion and cost of ownership rising, and with poor public transport in most cities, car sharing is bound to take off.”
