The trouble for the cheapest car in the country – Tata Nano – does not seem to be ending as yet another unit of the car caught fire on Saturday in Anand. The car belongs to an insurance company employee.

According to a local fire brigade official, "The Nano car which caught fire was registered in the name of Hafsa Mohd Iqbal Kathadi but it was being driven by Hafsa's husband who works with an insurance company here."

The new came as a shocker to the company that is working hard to salvage the safety image of Tata Nano among its buyers since last one year. Since the launch of the car in the Indian auto market, there have been at least half a dozen such incidents in which a brand new Nano caught fire. The company has offered free safety kits with Nano to enhance the safety after a series of fire incidents crippled the image of the car.

The incident took place on Krishna road, where Hafsa’s husband and his friend travelling in the car saw smoke coming out of it. The smoke later on converted into flames and the car was gutted in the blaze, as per fire officials.
