Under a project code-named INDRA, abbreviating for Innovative and New Development based on Responsible Analysis, Yamaha is working on a new low-cost bike for the Indian market. The bike is said to be available under Rs. 30,000 by 2017.

The catchy price and the company’s reputable sheet tends to make this a great deal, but one will have to wait for a long time to witness the launch of this bike. This Japanese automaker’s Indian R&D team is working in collaboration with its Japanese counterpart. They have also dedicated a 60 acre area among the 160 acre Chennai facility to these Japanese vendors. This Chennai facility of Yamaha is expected to be operational soon.

The specifications of the bike that will be launched under the project name INDRA are yet unknown, but it is being expected that the bike will be coming with a 110 to 110 cc engine with a four-speed transmission system. It has been confirmed that the suspension system of this bike will be from KYB (Kayaba). The low stipulated price of this bike tends to make it people’s choice just after its launch.

The company has been putting in efforts so that the cost check could be maintained and controlled through the Chennai facility. Also, Yamaha finds Africa as a probable expanding market for its two-wheelers. This highly efficient and low-budgeted bike would invite a large number of customers to be interested in it with the target being people from all age groups. The long wait that this bike is causing will be worth after its launch.
