The market for scooters in India has seen an exponential growth in the past and it is progressing faster than that of motorcycles, which is quite surprising given that they were about to be extinct half a decade ago. Due to this growth potential, many firms are lining up scooter launches in India, one of them being Japanese bike maker Yamaha, which is planning to launch a 125 cc model sometime during mid 2015.

Yamaha is quite new in the scooter segment and the new 125 cc model will mark the firm’s debut in that capacity category. At present, Yamaha sells Ray, Alpha and RayZ models in the market, which have received a reasonable response. According to a report by Autocar India, the codename for this new scooter is 04X and is going to be produced at Yamaha’s upcoming production plant in Chennai, which will commence manufacturing of this model in April 2015. The plant, as per reports, will make over 1 lakh units of this new 125 cc scooter.

Yamaha Motor Company made an official announcement regarding the launch of a 125 cc scooter with a codename 08X on 22nd July in Vietnam. This model is expected to be called Nozza Grande in Vietnam and is powered by an air cooled 125 cc engine that delivers excellent acceleration, fuel economy and there is a good chance that the scooter to be launched in India would be based on the same. Earlier in 2014, Yamaha, in the United Kingdom, launched a 125 cc scooter named Majesty S that featured CVT but the media insisted that it will not be rolled out in India.
