      Yamaha to establish third manufacturing plant in India

      The Indian unit of Japan based leading two-wheeler maker Yamaha is planning to set-up its third manufacturing plant in the Indian market. Besides expanding its business in the Indian market, the company also plans to establish an independent export unit in the country, to sell its bikes in the overseas market including Latin America and Africa.

      India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., which is the fully owned subsidiary of Japan based Yamaha, will be investing Rs 300 crore in its India operations by year 2012, for setting-up a warehouses and delivery centres at its Surajpur plant. The total manufacturing of the plant is expected to reach 10 lakh units mark by 2013.

      In a recent statement, India Yamaha Motor CEO and Managing Director Hiroyuki Suzuki said, "Currently a study is on for setting up a third plant. By the end of this year, we should think of a new factory." He added that by 2013, the company would like to sell eight lakh units in the domestic market and two lakh units in export when the Surajpur plant reaches a capacity of 10 lakh units annually.

      Moreover, the company is eying an annual export volume of three lakh units by year 2015.
