      Yamaha recalls YZF-R1 motorbikes in India

      Yamaha has been known to produce quality performance bike for the local as well as international markets for decades. The popular sports-bike YZF-R1 has hit a rough patch in the local soil due to recently identified problem with the lead coupler in the headlight that may get overheated and eventually melt. The overheating problem has been linked to potentially dangerous situation like arcing and in certain cases even causing short circuit.

      The Japanese bike-maker has put up an official word on the website stating, “This information is accordance with the requirements of our parent company Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., Japan, who have determined that a defect, which relates to Head light lead coupler overheating and melting exists in YZF-R1 motorcycle falling within certain production numbers. This headlight sub lead must be replaced at the earliest in the motorcycles falling within certain production numbers.” The bike-maker has urged bikers who have purchased the YZF-R1 between October 2008 and August 2013.

      The Yamaha YZF-R1 is powered by 998cc, in-line 4-cylinder, liquid cooled 4-stroke, 4-valve engine that is capable of attaining speeds of up to 285 km/hr. The super-bike engine generates about an amazing 180 Hp at 12500 rpm and 115.5 Nm or torque at 10000 rpm. The bike is a pure performer on a race track as well as off it. The bike features swing-arm type suspension at the rear and telescopic fork for the front wheels for maximum comfort.
