In the popular 150cc bike segment in the country, the bike-maker sells about 18000 units every month. Speaking more on the company's future in the 100cc - 125cc segment in the country, Roy Kurian, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Yamaha Motor India, said, “We are working on a top-down approach. We would first like to consolidate our position in the Deluxe segment (150cc) and the scooter vertical before venturing into other segments.”

Speaking more on the affordable bike plan, Toshikazu Kobayashi, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor R&D India, said, “The project is on. At this time we are not sure if the end product will cost $500, less or more. But we are working on the project keeping $500 (Aprox Rs. 30,000) as the benchmark price. We are trying our best.” Apart from over 150 cc bike segment, Yamaha has had little presence in the budget bike segment in the country.
