India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. (IYM) recently inaugurated a 4000kW solar power project at their manufacturing plant in Surajpur, Chhattisgarh. This step is taken to support the Green India Mission, which is an initiative by the Government of India for the conservation of energy.

Amplus Solar is the solar service provider that will take care of the installation, operation and maintenance of the solar power system at IYM. The installation will be completed by April this year. IYM's partial needs of electric energy supply for manufacturing operations will be fulfilled by this new set-up. In the initial stage, the solar panels will be installed on the roofs of the factory buildings and later extended to cover the parking areas of the IYM premises as well.

Apart from assisting in generating electricity, the solar power cells are also very environment-friendly. The 4000kW solar power plant will cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,38,000 metric tonnes and is estimated to save approximately 10,20,000 barrels of crude oil a year.

Hiroaki Fujita, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group Companies, said, "With this initiative, Yamaha has led the way towards Green Manufacturing and demonstrated the much-needed balance between economy and nature. We have always believed in investing in environment-friendly technologies. This project reinstates our commitment towards the objective of energy conservation and to support the country’s Green India Mission."
