Japanese bikemaker Yamaha has been a popular name in the Indian two-wheeler industry. The company has been fairing decently in the 150cc segment with the recent introduction of fuel-injected version 2.0s in the FZ-S and its semi-faired Fazer. Due to the introduction of new technology in both bikes, the company has finally decided to discontinue the older carbureted models. The decision reportedly comes in view owing to better response being received for the 2.0 versions from customers.
The Version 2.0 fuel injected FZ-S and Fazer continue to be powered by Yamaha’s 153cc single cylinder engine that is stated to be based on Yamaha’s BlueCore philosophy. The new technology claims to be more fuel efficient while also offering improved performance. However, the company has not yet discontinued the carbureted version of FZ16 that has been on sale since 2008 in India. With improved technology, it is more than obvious that the newer 2.0 version would be a smarter bet for customers.
Apart from the older FZ-S and Fazer, the company has also discontinued the Ray scooter that was initially introduced for women riders. Later on, the company had introduced the Ray-Z that carries a more male-oriented appeal and is currently on sale. It is believed that the company shall introduce the new Ray-ZR that was showcased at the recently concluded 2016 Auto Expo event. the new scooter shall continue to be powered by 113cc Blue Core engine from the Ray, but in form of fresh upgrades it shall get revised body panels and other style upgrades. The scooter shall also feature an optional disc brake on the front and alloy wheels. The company has also been banking on its newly launched Fascino scooter in India.
