India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki had launched a newer version rechristened as Stingray a while ago, to appeal to the younger lot of car buyers in the country. The newer version is said to be based on the older Wagon R hatchback platform. The former model has been in the Indian market for over a decade now and has been widely accepted by the masses. The Wagon R was always the practical choice for an average middle class Indian, it had space, comfort, decent power, and everything seemed to be just perfect!
Starting with the interiors, the Stingray sports a dual tone Greybeige shade on the plastic upholstery. Audio controls are backlight and have been steering mounted for easy navigation through the playlist. The instrument cluster is illuminated with a blue backlight to give you a sportier feel. The AC vents has also received a dash of Chrome that gels well with the dual tone interior combination. Moreover, the vehicle sounds an alert every time you forget to take your keys out post parking.
On the exterior front, the Stingray sports a brighter and sportier projector headlamp. The front grills are sleeker and are complimented with large airdam that lends it a stunner look. The bumpers look bigger and is mated well with the side skirting. One things that brings out its style in true sense is the abundant use of Chrome on the vehicle. Grayishsilver 14 inch alloy wheel brings out the raw instinct that may appeal to youth on a large scale.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray is powered by the same 1.0 Litre three cylinder Kseries engine. The refined engine generates about 68 PS of power with a peak torque of 90 Nm. The K series engine has been successful with the current lot of Maruti hatchbacks. Technical specifications for the car are similar to the older Wagon R, the only difference here would be cosmetic upgrades. The Maruti Suzuki Stingray has been designed to appeal for the younger crowd.
The only factor that seems to have affected Stingray sales is the unavailability of alternative fuel types, and it is currently available only in a petrol variant. Bolder, sportier and upmarket feel is what you can expect from this car. Rest, the perks of driving a smart car comes as value added benefit with this car too, as was seen with its older sibling Wagon R.
