Waiting period on Maruti Suzuki Ignis stretches to three months

The Ignis, Maruti Suzuki’s latest roll-out from the Nexa line has found a large number of potential buyers in the country. And now there’s more evidence to support Maruti’s claims, prior to its launch, that the automaker received over 15,000 bookings for the vehicle. Owing to its popularity and growing demand, the waiting period has now surged to about three months, especially on the Ignis base Sigma variant.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre four cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox generates that develops 83bhp at 6000rpm and 115Nm torque at 4000rpm. The 1.3-litre Multijet diesel also comes mated to a five-speed manual and develops 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Interestingly, the vehicle is offered with automatic AGS gearbox in both petrol as well as diesel engines, but this is limited to the Zeta and Delta trims and not the top-spec Alpha trim.

Targeted at young buyers, the Ignis from Maruti Suzuki is offered with interesting customisation options. The Indian automaker offers factory fitted roof wraps along with exterior colour coded elements inside the car such as door handles and the centre console.  The top-spec variant features dual-tone exterior colour options along with the interior colour coded elements in shades of Uptown Red and Tinsel Blue. 

The country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki produces the Ignis hatchback at its Gurugram facility. The facility reportedly has a production capacity of 5,000 units every month, but then, the Indian automaker reportedly sold around 4,830 units in January alone. Moving forward, the company will be utilising its new facility in Gujarat which currently helps with the Baleno production. This will help the automaker bring down the waiting period for the Ignis in the months to come.
