'Wait' New Watch Word for Auto Industry in India

‘Wait’ seems to be the new watch word for the auto industry in India. For past few months, auto manufacturers and dealers waited for the customers to walk in. Now it’s the turn of the customers to wait before they can walk out with their favorite cars.

Maruti cars top the cars with Ritz having a wait period of at least 45 days. Swift Dzire always had a wait period and current waiting time is not less than three months. Other Maruti cars such as Wagon R, Swift (petrol) and Alto have a waiting period of at least 30-45 days.

Hyundai scenario is no better. Hyundai dealers are seeking at least 20-30 days of delivery time before delivering the cars. According to one of the Hyundai dealers in India, there has been a sudden surge in demand with fear of recession going on the back burner.

Chevrolet cars have waiting period of at least 30 days with recent model Cruze having 20 day wait period. Fiat Linea’s top end model Emotion is facing a shortfall but lower models – Active and Dynamic are readily available.

On the other hand, auto manufacturers are also known to have created “artificial demand” with low production levels. Waiting period on cars definitely means that auto manufacturers continue to sell their successful models without any additional or revamped features nor do they have any attractive offers on their cars.
