Volkswagen India will launch Vento sedan and Polo hatchback packed with an all new 1.5 litre diesel engine and an automatic tranny. Volkswagen Polo 1.5 litre diesel will go on sale first followed by Vento sedan. Besides a new engine and automatic gearbox, Polo hatchback will also don a host of cosmetic changes. Earlier the hatchback was rumoured to be launched in May 2014, however, now it is being said that Volkswagen could roll out new Polo 1.5 diesel in July. Vento launch will take place soon after Polo goes on sale. Volkswagen will also introduce an array of new features in the new Vento 1.5 litre diesel variant.

Volkswagen currently offers Polo and Vento diesel variants in two engine options including a low displacement 1.2 litre, three cylinder TDi engine and a 1.6 litre TDI motor. Speculations suggest that after launching Polo 1.5 litre diesel variant, the company could retire 1.2 litre diesel variant, though there is no official word out on the same.

A new six-speed DSG automatic transmission will be paired to the new 1.5 litre diesel motor. Vento 1.5 litre diesel variant is expected to be Rs 90,000 pricier than its petrol variant. With the launch of new City sedan in India, sales of Vento have sunk considerably.
