Despite the dieselgate scandal, Volkswagen Group is all set to oust Toyota and become the world’s biggest-selling automaker for the year 2016!
VW is set to outdo four time in-a-row champion- Toyota, by selling 7.61 million vehicles worldwide over the 7.53 million vehicles Toyota sold till September 2016. VW registered a growth of 2.4 per cent against Toyota’s 0.4 per cent over the same period!
The reason is none other than China! The largest automobile market in the world, VW sells three cars for every one vehicle that Toyota moves out of the showroom. Till September 2016, VW claims an increase in sales of 11 per cent in China, which is what has propelled the brand’s sales despite the drop in other markets due to the scandal.
Things haven’t been favourable for Toyota too, and a supplier problem along with an explosion at a steel supplier in February got Toyota’s Japanese factories to shut operations for quite some time. What’s worked in their favour though, is the strong demand reported by the VW group’s members like Audi, Porsche, and Skoda that have fuelled this growth.
Thanks to the Chinese demand and the VW group’s performance, it looks like VW is back up on its feet, and this may just as well be the best comeback in the history of comebacks.
