      VW reveals teaser image of 2015 Passat ahead of its global online unveiling

      German auto major, Volkswagen has released first teaser image of the new 2015 Passat premium sedan ahead of its global online unveiling scheduled on July 3, 2014. The online unveiling of the new Passat will follow the public exhibition in October at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. This would be the eight generation of the sedan, the new gen model is being developed under the codename B8 which as the image shows will come up with a number of additions including LED daytime running lights, a contoured bonnet, front grille and flared wheel arches. The DLRs will come with 32 LEDs aligned in U shape along with an automatically adjustable beam. Volkswagen will first launch the new generation Passat in various European markets. India will also get the new Passat after its global launch in other preeminent markets. In India we expect the saloon to be priced between Rs 22 lakh to Rs 27 lakh.

      Passat’s eight generation model departs from its conventional styling and flaunts the contemporary semblance. Passat’s front profile bears resemblance with the Golf. The new Passat is around 85 kgs lighter than the previous version, underpinning the new platform with copious use of high-strength steel and aluminium the saloon is capable of returning enhanced fuel economy by 20 per cent. Dimensions of the new Passat will be smaller than the previous version; however on the contrary the vehicle will offer roomier cabin space than its predecessor.

      Volkswagen will offer the new Passat with an option of a 2.0 litre, four cylinder, twin turbocharged diesel powertrain exclusive for international markets. The 2.0 litre engine is capable of belting out a maximum power output of 237 Bhp along with a peak torque of 500 Nm. A seven-speed transmission will transmit power to all four wheels through the 4 MOTION system.

      Inside the cabin we expect the vehicle to come equipped with a number of new goodies including a driver assist system and an array of safety features. Among the comfort and convenience features a ‘Virtual Cockpit’ donning a 12.3 inch fully configurable display could also be seen.
