Volvo Cars, the Swedish auto maker owned by China based Geely Corporation, has announced the launch of the new Volvo V40 Cross Country based on the standard V40 five-door hatchback in the Indian market by March 2013. Expected to be blessed with a 2.0-litre D3 diesel engine, Volvo V40 Cross Country will be positioned in the premium crossover segment to intensify the rivalry with segment leaders, BMW X1 and Mercedes B-class.

Currently showcased at the ongoing 2012 Paris Motor Show, the next generation V40 Cross Country embodies greater ground clearance for enhancing the off-road drivability. Moreover the crossover dons an athlete stance resulting from the furnishing of new bumpers, side sills with contrast inserts and protective body panels. The muscular appeal guaranteed with superior performance is apt for Volvo’s foray into India’s entry level segment that is expected to be priced at Rs. 30 lakh.

To be brought in India in the form of CBU (completely built units), Volvo V40 Cross Country is anticipated to own a 163bhp 2.0-litre D3 diesel powertrain mated with six-speed automatic gearbox. Prices and engine specifications have not been officially revealed by the company.

While the car maker is globally acclaimed for its concern for safety, its new model for the Indian auto market will be equipped Collision Alert, Pedestrian Airbag Technology, Bending Xenon Headlamps, standard airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control, Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake and City Safety system.
