Volvo has launched the all-new XC90 for the Thai market with prices ranging from4890000 baht to 5990000 baht (Rs 93.02 lakh to Rs 1.13 crore).

With the latest XC90, Volvo plans to lock horns with the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE. And for this, two engine options find their way into the Thai spec XC90, the D5 diesel and the T8 plug-in hybrid. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder D5 diesel motor produces 225bhp at 4250rpm and 470Nm of torque at 1750rpm. Its direct competitor, the GLE 250d makes 204bhp and 500Nm of torque. Prices for the Mercedes-Benz GLE 250d ranges from 4990000 to 5490000 baht (Rs 94.93 lakh to Rs 1.04 crore), which is a cut above the D5 that retails for 4890000 baht (Rs 93.02 lakh).

Volvo’s XC90 in T8 form is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor that pumps out a total of 407bhp and 640Nm of torque. The T8 in Momentum trim sells for 5390000 baht (Rs 1.02 crore) and the Inscription version costs 5990000 baht (Rs 1.13 crore). This version is targeted against the BMW X5 xDrive40e, a petrol-electric hybrid that produces 313bhp and costs 5390000 baht (Rs 1.02 crore). Volvo’s XC90 maintains its comprehensive list of safety and driver-assisted technologies which make it stand out from its competitors.

Volvo Cars in India only have an XC90 with a diesel motor, and has not unveiled any plans to get their petrol mill into the Indian spec XC90 yet.
