      Volvo Auto India sales double to 821 units during 2012 calendar year

      Volvo Auto India, a well-appreciated Swedish luxury automotive maker, has announced that its total vehicle sales climbed up by two-folds in the domestic passenger car market last year. The company witnessed sales of 821 units in India during the 2012 calendar year, as against the sales of 320 units recorded in 2011. The revelation came through a statement released by Volvo Auto India on January 28, 2013.

      Volvo models are renowned all across the globe for their sturdy built along with segment defining safety and security attributes. The latest statement said, “The company now targets 35 per cent growth in 2013 by clocking sales of 1,100 units.” At present, Volvo Auto India offers its models via Completely Built Unit (CBU) route to the domestic car enthusiasts. Further, the Swedish auto major has no vehicle assembly of its own on Indian turf.

      Expressing his view on impressive sales recorded last year, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director (MD), Volvo Auto India, was quoted as saying, “A growth of 150 per cent in sales figures was possible only because of strategic associations Volvo had last year.”

      At present, Volvo Auto India offers two luxury saloons- S60 and S80 along with two premium utility vehicles- XC60 and XC90 in the Indian auto market. The price range of Volvo S60 starts from Rs. 25 lakhs and goes on till Rs. 35 lakhs, whereas Volvo S80 is offered to domestic audience within a price bracket of Rs. 33 to 44 lakhs. Further, luxury crossover Volvo XC60 carries a retail value in a price range of Rs. 35 to 42 lakhs and the Volvo XC90 luxury Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) comes at a price tag of Rs. 42.8 lakhs in the country.
