      Volvo and Skoda hiked prices by up to Rs. 1.3 lacs

      Skoda Auto India Private Limited and Volvo Auto India have hiked the prices of their different models after the recently announced Union Budget 2012-13 called for hike in excise duty. Volvo Auto India, the Swedish premium car maker, has increased the prices of all its vehicles by up to Rs. 1.3 lacs. In a statement issued by the company, "The prices for Volvo S60, S80, XC60 and XC90 have been increased after the budget was announced for 2012-13. The prices have been increased by less than 3 per cent for all the models. The minimum price increase is Rs 1 lacs, while the maximum is Rs 1.30 lacs."

      According to recent reports, the Volvo S60 sedan would now be available in the Indian automobile market with a price tag of Rs. 25 lacs. Similarly, the costs of Volvo S80 and SUV XC60 have also been increased. The Volvo S80 and SUV XC60 now carry the price tag of Rs. 28 lacs and Rs. 35.25 lacs, respectively.

      Skoda Auto India Private Limited, the fully owned subsidiary Skoda Auto (Czech automobile manufacturer), has hiked the prices of its models by 2.2 to 5.1 %. As per the statement released by Skoda Auto India, "The new prices are in line with changing market conditions and would be effective immediately." Indian consumers who were looking forward to buy Skoda models would now have to pay more than expected.

      The Skoda Fabia hatchback will now be available in Indian showrooms with the initial price tag of Rs. 4.6 lacs. Similarly, after the revision in prices, Skoda Rapid sedan would be available with the price tag of Rs. 6.9 lacs. The increase in excise duty has forced Skoda Auto India to hike the cost of other popular models too. Laura, the premium sedan, and Yeti, a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), would be available in the Indian automobile market at starting price of Rs. 12.9 lacs and Rs. 13.9 lacs respectively. On this, the company commented, "The flagship sedan Superb will also see a price rise and will retail at a starting price of Rs 19.6 lacs."
