The Volkswagen Taigun will be featuring at the Auto Expo 2014 to be held in Greater Noida next month. The name sounds similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan and is based on the Up! platform. As we have seen in the recent past, compact SUV’s have stormed the market in 2013. The market trend seems to have shifted to a preference for these vehicles. The Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport and Nissan Terrano have already captured a chunk of market share. Volkswagen is moving with the market by introducing the Taigun at the Auto Expo.

The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be powered by 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The engine generates a good 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. The diesel version may feature a 1.4litre, 3 cylinder engine. The Taigun features turbo charged direct injection technology to deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl in Petrol, whereas the Diesel version is more fuel efficient. Moreover, the car claims to reach a top speed of 185 kmph in just under 9.2 seconds. This is a special feat even when the SUV weighs around 985 kgs! It is anticipated that the car will be 3.86 metre long and 1.43 metre wide in dimensions. Official specifications for the car is yet to be received and shall only be declared when the car is launched.

The features a bigger and bolder stance. The exteriors are vibrant with rugged side panels, under-body protection and roof rails. The Brazil showcased version featured LED lights on roof rails and 17-inch alloys, though the street version may vary. The infotainment system inside the car is stated to be compatible with variety of smartphones. The smart aircons feature a temperature display inside the nozzle and can be adjusted for blower and air speed.

The Volkswagen Taigun will go head to head against some of the upcoming SUVs in the market too. Speed is of the essence here for Volkswagen, as Honda, Hyundai and Maruti are all lining up compact SUVs very soon. The Auto Expo 2014 will certainly provide the right launch pad for this SUV, with 70 cars expected to showcase. The Taigun , first seen at the Sao Paulo Motor show in Brazil, is a stylish looking car. However, we feel that unless it gets its pricing right, it may fail to compete for the spot of top dog in the compact SUV segment.
