Volkswagen to Enter Pre-Owned Car Market

German auto maker, Volkswagen, is planning to enter the pre-owned car market. It has decided to enter this market segment even before the scheduled launch of its small car. VW has aggressive marketing plans lined up to acquire larger market share in India. The company has adopted the top-down approach to enter the Indian auto market, i.e. to launch premium and luxury cars first and then enter the compact car market.

Volkswagen's entry in the pre-owned car market is in-line with its aggressive market plans whereby it is aiming to poach customers from other brands especially major players like Maruti and Hyndai. The pre-owned car market from Volkswagen would enable customers to trade their old car models from other brands to Volkswagen's latest car models.

Volkswagen has its manufacturing plant in Chakan, near Pune. It aims to invest another Rs. 2400 crore in its plant to boost its manufacturing capacity. This unit shall be the main facility for its upcoming volume cars in India.

Other players that mark their presence in pre-owned car segment as MAruti's True Value, Hyundai's Advantage, Ford's Assured, Mahindra's First Choice and Honda's Auto Terrace.
