The Indian arm of Volkswagen Group, a well appreciated German automobile marque, has revealed plans of showcasing its cutting-edge concept mobility solutions- MicroCity and Nils at the final instalment of '2012-13 Indo German Urban Mela' to be held in Pune. The music and technological festival cum exhibition has been scheduled to begin from January 11 and will finally end on January 20, 2013 at Deccan College Grounds, Pune. The state-of-the-art electric vehicles were also displayed recently in the National Capital during Delhi chapter of the engaging ten day cross cultural festival.

Both Volkswagen MicroCity and Nils concept vehicles are coming of age electrically driven mobility solutions, which would appeal to individuals looking for an environment friendly mode of transport. The German auto major has designed the electric hybrid vehicles, with focus on futuristic 'Innovation, Responsibility and Sustainability.' The company has covered many vital areas for next generation mobility solutions, such as hybrid technology, eco friendly recycling concepts along with utilisation of renewable sources of energy. Volkswagen will also provide information regarding its Research and Development (R&D) breakthroughs at the Pune edition of Indo German Urban Mela.

According to Alexander Skibbe, Head of Communication, Volkswagen Group India, MicroCity concept mobility solution has been designed to counter burning issues like ever increasing pollution levels and problematic vehicle congestion in urban areas. Skibbe further informed that India is the only country where the company has publicly showcased its MicroCity and Nils concepts. Commenting on the MicroCity concept, Skibbe was quoted as saying, “This is a project of our Research team.”

The Volkswagen Nils concept is a single seater electric vehicle and comes in extremely tiny dimensions, as compared to a conventional automobile. The smart concept car is just 3.04 metre long, 1.39 metre wide and 1.2 metre tall, which makes it an instant crowd puller. The electric vehicle features an all-aluminium space frame, winged doors along with free standing wheels, besides an optimum overall weight distribution system.

Volkswagen Nils' practical design and miniature dimensions make it an ideal vehicle for a major fraction of daily office going commuters in the country, who use two-wheelers as their preferred mode of transportation. The electric vehicle's unconventional design and technology entails it to travel silently with absolute zero emission ability and reach a top speed of 130 kmph. The company received great feedback for its Nils concept at the New Delhi chapter of Indo German Urban Mela, where the cute car attracted a huge crowd and received adulation from the automobile press media and experts.
